Understanding Claims
On LTL Shipments, freight carriers offer limited liability coverage on every shipment. The carriers pay out a dollar amount per pound depending on the freight class and commodity of the shipment. The delivery receipt must include notice of any loss or damages to receive full claim amount. It is imperative that the company arranging the freight (the shipper) explains to the receiver what to expect, especially for customers who are not familiar with receiving freight. If completely damaged, freight should be refused. If it is partially received or received partially damaged, the delivery receipt must indicate so by notating the exact loss or damage of the shipment. The receiver is responsible for documenting any loss or damages at time of delivery. Usually, the Proof of Delivery (delivery receipt) takes precedence over any other supporting documents when evaluating a claim.
On Truckload Shipments, Kojima Logistics only work with truckload operators that offer a minimum of $100,000.00 in insurance coverage.

For any high cost or extremely fragile goods being shipped that is valued beyond the carrier's liability coverage, we suggest that you consult with third party freight insurance companies. Usually, these insurance companies can cover the goods for the full value declared and will not be subject to the limitations of the carrier's liability coverage.
